The prelim is out of the way - most of you have done quite or very well so well done and there is still time to make improvements if you haven't done as well as you'd hoped. Speaking test next on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th March. All of you have all the work you need for this; it's just a matter of learning it now. I'll fit in plenty of practice over the coming week and set up opportunities at lunchtimes and after school if you want a practice run through. Email me if you have any questions or need anything recorded.
I'll leave the sections below as they still apply for the final exam :
Reading : past reading papers can help - remember to do the translation too as this is quite often the area where SQA markers say marks are lost unnecessarily. If you don't have the SQA papers at home, there are still some copies of the practice papers in my room (beside filing cabinet beside desk) so sign these out through the library. Even if you feel confident of reading, going through some of the exercises we have already done from units 1 and 2 is a really useful way of revising vocabulary which will help you with other papers in the exam.
Listening : I think best way to prepare for this is going through past units to revise vocabulary. In terms of listening practice, there are some good exercises on http://www.ashcombe.surrey.sch.uk/Curriculum/modlang/index.htm. Some of you find listening difficult but you need to go in with a positive frame of mind.
Writing: in the short essay, please make sure that you answer all of the questions asked. For example, if there are three questions, you need to answer all three - not just the ones you feel confident about. In the directed writing, make sure that you control the time available to you and that you address all parts of all bullet points. If you go through all of the essays you've written, you'll see that there are phrases, vocab etc that comes up again and again - try to make a note of these and learn. At Higher level, they are looking at accuracy (so check all spelling) and range (so try to make sure that you are getting in some different tenses and complex phrases). For directed writing in particular make sure that you revise the key verbs and get these right.
Email me on that address I gave you if any problems, you want anything checked etc.
Extra worksheets : you worked through some of these in class but I've posted them here so that you can work on them at home too. There's also the list of Higher Essay phrases I promised.
