Rachel Sermani wins the day

X-Factor was a blistering success today with 10 different acts showing off their talents. Rachel's own compositions won the day with her amazing voice and guitar playing.Other acts included some Beatles, rock, Jonny Cash song and a Chilli Peppers hit as well as dancing from the plastic barbies and Gemma and Eilidh. Well done to everyone who took part and having the guts to have a go.Of course the judges made the day with our very own Sharon, Simon and Luis with their cutting comments and sparse praise. And we raised £184 towards our trip to China - thanks everyone for your support.

There will be 10 different acts and the winners will play in Friday's concert and get £20. The team of judges will give their views and choose the winner. Hope you enjoy it and good luck to everyone involved.

19 days to go

With only 19 days to go, we are all really excited about going to Beijing!

The countdown starts....!

Noodles!

Today we had a very challenging, but tasty lunchChopsticks_1 . We were having a chinese lunch to practice for our forthcoming trip to Beijing. The chopsticks were interesting...Laura Burns in particular found them quite amusing. But getting back to the subject we have done lots of fundraising including the highly successful and yummy bake sale, the intensely insane abseil off the school roof (sorry for any paint loss), a flaming hot fireman's auction - raising a total of £803. And still to come the extreme X-Factor, which you better just attend people. Just think, you'll get out of class for it! Worth while.

Struggling with mandarin?

If you are feeling somewhat nervous about being faced with mandarin all day every day whilst in Beijing, how about trying to brush up on what we learnt recently? Take a look at Mark Pentleton's blog on his experiences of teaching himself mandarin with good links and podcasts.

Beijing 2006

China_group 8 students and the two language teachers are heading to Beijing this summer to learn mandarin for 2 weeks. Every morning there will be mandarin lessons, followed by cultural activities in the afternoon. Click below for the full programme.

Symbols_1 It is a really exciting opportunity and a new one for everyone involved. We had 10 hours of mandarin tuition one weekend recently and were totally exhausted at the end of the whole experience. It is a really hard language to learn and completely mind boggling with a set of characters to learn and then an alphabet known as Pinyin for their pronunciation. Anyone confused yet? Plus on top of that there are 4 different tones for each word! But we managed to learn greetings, introductions, shopping phrases and most importantly how to order at a restaurant.

We hope to keep you all posted on our adventures using this blog and perhaps even upload photos. But not sure what the Chinese keyboards will be like or internet facilities. Please send us your comments and keep in touch.
