The verb avoir is a very important verb in the French language. On its own it means to have, but it also performs another vital function.
The verb avoir acts as an auxiliary verb to help other verbs form different tenses, one of these being the passé composé.
The passé composé enables you to talk about something you have done and it is important you try to understand it if you are to make further progress.
